Yolanda Vanden Bosch

Yolanda Vanden Bosch is a Lawyer / Partner-director in the law firm Van der Mussele – Vanden Bosch, a member of the Antwerp Bar, specialized in public and administrative law and human rights. She studied law at the University of Antwerp, and specialized in international law and human rights a.o. on The Hague Academy of International Law and the International Institute of Human Rights in Straatsburg.  She is Secretary-General of the Association of Flemish Jurists and former Member of the Board of the United Nations Association Flanders Belgium (VVN). She is Lecturer at the KU Leuven on legal aspects and deontology for legal and community interpreting and translation courses and trainer of the court interpreters and translators. She is also Lector at the Karel de Grote - Hogeschool Antwerpen, in Administration and Public Law. She has published and regularly gives seminars and lectures on legal interpreting and translation in Belgium and in other countries. 

Since 1998 she’s working on initiatives on Legal interpreting & translating in Antwerp and Belgium, and the EU. She was co-initiator to the Antwerp project on Court interpreting & translating and is still involved and teaching in the special program ‘Gerechtstolken- en vertalen’ in the KU Leuven (before Lessius University College). She participated in different EU-projects around legal interpreting & translation: Grotius I & II, Agis I & II, Eulita, Building Mutual Trust I & II, Avidicus I & II, Trafut, Qualitas, Avidicus III, Understanding Justice, LIT Search. 

She was the author of the first study on ‘Belgian Law and Court Interpreters and Translators’ (1998), and co-author of a video ’the court interpreter’ with the Antwerp Court of First Instance Antwerp, in quality and skills in legal interpreting in 2000, both nominated by the King Boudouin Foundation.  She wrote an article on Equal Access to Justice through the Right to Interpretation and Translation an Legal Aid in the publication Legal Aid in the law Countries (eds. B. Hubeau & A. Terlouw, 2014) and  in Legal Aid: a new beginning? (ILAG, 2007). In 2016 she presented the free legal aid interpreting & translation regulations in Belgium to the representatives of the Legal Aid Board of the Ministry of Justice of China.
